This is another response image to the post on Dave’s site, Chromasia.com. While his is, of course, technically a better image, I think deep down he wishes he’d taken the opportunity to shove me out of the way (I was standing to his immediate left) and taken this angle himself.
But do you know what? I somehow feel justice was served. I know he thinks his image is better, and well, it blooming should be—he did teach me the technique! 😉
This was a 3-frame HDR processed in Photomatix. The EXIF data below is from the middle frame of the 3-shot sequence. More blog info later.
Oh, and I can’t leave any of these railway posts without thanking FatPete for his extremely detailed aerial map showing how to gain access. I’m sure he won’t mind a public thank you for that. csj

I concur with others here that the two frames don’t really compare (I know it was just a little banter anyway ;o)
Dave’s was more of a detailed study whilst this has a little mystique as it leads our eyes off into the distance. I agree with Alan that the tiny glimpse of horizon is a nice touch. Well done.
It’s mystical Craig! It’s the kind of picture that takes me to a magical place, like a magical train will take me away!
Your work is inspiring, and thanks to you i am now buying my first SLR! Can’t wait!!
I really like this one and do feel there’s not much in it between this and David’s version. Side by side they look like they could have been done by the same person.
The horizon just kept in frame works well too giving the whole image depth. Fantastic stuff.
Thanks everyone, I am only having some friendly sparring with Dave, I really like his image, and in fairness neither of these look anywhere as good at this resolution, as they appear compressed tonally. I’d give everyone viewing the site a 24″ screen if I could afford it….. thanks for commenting anyway it really is inspiring getting your reactions…. csj
I have checked Chromasia´s entry, and I do agree with Dave, they are both good and they are different. I do really like your angle and composition. A.
DJN, I couldn’t have said it better myself mate, and Dedicated: WHERES MY STORY, I was hoping to add some fiction this week! on the blog…..;-) csj
Both of your shots make me want to hop on a train and just ride on in silence ^^;

Interestingly enough I think that both shots are equally good – just different. I do think your angle works really well – not least because it wouldn’t have occurred to me to place the horizon so high in the frame – and I do wish I’d taken this one too 🙂 As for my shot: I think the slightly more extreme processing suits the content of my shot better than it would have done the content of yours, but it isn’t technically any better. Again, it’s just different.
Anyway, all that’s probably just a rather long-winded way of saying that I think you did a good job with this one.
Another superb HDR – draws out the details brilliantly. I really like how the track leads you right through the frame.
Having seen yours and Dave’s photos from this outing, I’m definitely going to head back down the tracks again soon.
PS. thanks for the link 😉
Funny and interesting to have the second view to the same motiv like david. And i like this “twin” posting. Actual i think your perspective is more better because of wide angle, well done! ^^
