“Window Shopping”|Ashley Cross|Poole

I thought it was a weird location. I gave it a month in my head, before something would happen. And as if by magic…..

When the new constituency office for Neil Duncan-Jordan M.P. popped up on the high street, I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. Of all the places to set up a public-facing, glass-fronted base of operations, this felt like an incredibly weird and exposed choice for a modern politician. In fact, I distinctly remember setting a mental timer the moment the sign went up, giving it a month tops before reality caught up with the optics. It should be a shop or retail frontage at a fair rent?

Well, it has been roughly a month, and right on cue, as if by magic, the inevitable happened. The large front windows are now completely smashed and webbed with impact fractures, covered up by taped notices while passing locals stand on the pavement scratching their heads at the fallout.

There is a fine line between wanting to look accessible to your constituents and being hopelessly naive about high street security. It didn’t take a psychic to see this coming, just a basic understanding of the local landscape. Now, the only real question left is whether they will bother replacing the glass, or if they will wise up and install some heavy-duty metal shutters before the next predictable event happens.
