“Georgie Fames’ Dog”|Plymouth|1992

I just wanted to put up a post specifically to make myself smile today. It’s been one of those relentless days where you don’t get five minutes to yourself just to breathe.

This shot does the trick every time. The look on that dog’s face is just so intensely expectant—and I felt genuinely awful because I didn’t have a single scrap of food to give him… poor mutt.

I’ve spent a few hours recently digging through some of my older folio images and actually managed to track down the original negatives for this shot, which I’ve since rescanned (though the version posted here is the older, original scan). I took this back in April 1992 down in Cornwall. I was working with a film crew in and around the home of the legendary Georgie Fame, and his dog just seemed to take a massive liking to me.

He completely played up to the camera. I’ll gladly post a few more from this series if people are interested, just so you can see exactly what a character he was, but this specific frame has always been the standout for me. It’s a crop from a standard 35mm frame of Kodak T-MAX 100, and it perfectly captures that split-second connection.

Let me know what you think…
