The title for this series from the Buzludzha monument in Bulgaria, was taken from some graffiti which was painted on the lower quarter of the huge upright tower / mast. Unfortunately the only frame I got depicting the graffiti was blown in the highlights, I’m not sure there’s enough of a shot to rescue it, but if i ever go back, I’ll be sure to capture it again.
Dave captured this cracking shot from inside the main auditorium, and I know he has a better HDR of this upper ring than I. But today’s post is quite emotive in as much as here is a link to how it once looked. What a view. Absolutely stunning / breath taking… now abandoned, destroyed.

Craig: Thanks for the comment mate, means a lot, that you have come back to this image. My stomach still churns thinking about this structure, and how it once looked. I really don’t fully understand what it was that the Bulgarians went through, that would make them do this to something that stood so monumental. And in such a short time. I am sure though that over time, I will be educated as to their plight. It is still an emotive location. I am already looking forward to going back. Maybe at night with lots of flash guns, and a rubber Alien.

I think the shots (so far) of this structure have been great but this is the standout shot of the three for me. I’ve come back and looked probably twenty times in the last two days and that’s not something I would normally do, it just has an extra something. The shapes, lanscape and overall colour remind me of something but I can’t put my finger on it. Something slightly sci fi (although not obviously HDR), like another world. I’m rambling, hey I like it! 🙂
It’s very cool photo fodder and it was worth the effort (that you need not have put in) to climb to the top, it’s also sad when we see what it once looked like.

Nice photo – shows the decay really well, and the view from that building is amazing!

Print? I remember them … paper things, with pictures on them. I should probably produce more of them.

Never give up, no matter how tiresome some images can be. Ultimately when you have the print in your hand you’ll be glad you persisted.

I had a go at processing my version of this shot, then gave up. After seeing this though I’m going to give it another go 🙂
