So I've had the G10 a while now, but haven't had that many personal opportunities to let it loose. I have mostly shot family and parties so far. That said I have sold a few frames, which I rattled off at some PROMS I recently photographed.

I love its compact form and power. If I had any complaint its that the sensor has a noise issue above 400iso, but I am still very happy to blog those images at 900px max on screen so expect to see a few.

Those of you that know my work will already realize I'm not a sunshine person, I would actually prefer a shot of something in the rain than a chocolate box picture if I can help it (I mean I have a few, we all do). But give me bright and overcast any day of the week. Sounds terrible to wish the summer away, the kids love it. But I can't help and wonder that the interesting characters just melt away during the summer, and crawl out again during the winter down here in Poole. I prefer autumn / winter street photography anyway, and I think this is where the G10 will come into its own. Well I hope so anyway.

This image was caught of my daughter whilst we were out picking some fruit (trying to kill time on a long weekend), and whilst it looks all happy and shiny, the underlying issue here was that she had trodden in wet mud up to her ankles and was having a hissy fit at us for making her go fruit picking. She stomped off to the car straight after this frame.... happy times....

So I got the G10, and very pleased with it I am to (at the moment)! Only thing being that ithe camera is more recent in terms of its RAW functionality, than my copy of Photoshop, so whilst I can work with the RAW files in CS3, it doesn't natively support the type produced by the G10 (as far as I can see).

However Lightroom can!, and I have been converting to DNG prior to editing. That appears to work well.

Anyway tonight's post was going to be from the G10, but alas being the bloke that I am, I went out blind. And on DJN's advice I just 'used the camera' as i would any other camera. Except I forgot to check the file type settings embedded in the CUSTOM profile I was using. Therefore ending up with a pile of JPG's, which after using RAW feel quite useless.

So whilst the pics are ok (subject wise), I don't feel I have enough meat in them to edit or indeed blog. We'll see.

feel like an IDIOT........ guess I should have RTFM.... again ;-)

Anyway this image was one of a series that I shot at my Dad's 70th, this is my niece dropping from the skies above and bouncing back up again.... good times.

Oh and for those curios enough to be bothered.... here is the original frame;

....archives/urbanangel.php

Also I have embedded an interview from Folio Podcasts with Dave from Chromasia, a good friend, and inspiring photographer. Take a listen, its great to get inside his head, and listen to how he works....

Blimey what a response to DJN's last image, and in my honest opinion what a lot of old toss spouted about the meaning of images. Click here for the comment feed to read up and understand.

I do profess to be a supporter of the saying each to their own, live and let live, etc etc etc yada yada yada.

But I mean I'm not gonna stand on a soap box and quote anyone from the feed for being a total idiot, I am probably right up there in that list!!!!.

But I truely believe in what I said. If your bread and butter is in image making, not every picture you take is going to have a conceptual meaning , nor is it going to be in a location of war or famine, those opportunities are few and far between, in fact not even if you do photography just for fun, will these opportunities arise each day so does that make it any less of an image???. Does removing the colour (because you made the choice to show B&W) make it any less of an image, does quoting two words to sum up someones work against a completly different situation mean that the effort expended in getting that shot is any less meaningful. Who can say?.........

NO-ONE people!!....

Photography is subjective, and we can all have our own opinion, voice and judgement. That's what makes it a wonderful medium to change, express, modify, shoot straight, contrive, plaguerise, show off, hide away, and ultimately use as a way to express ourselves. There isn't one person qualified enough to judge fully the reason why ANY image is created, published, hung, shown, blogged, or whether it is in their opinion ian image of meaning, credence, standing, conceptual meaning, or traversally is devoid of objectivity due to the way in which it was created. And do you know why!?. WHY..... Because we can ALL have those feelings and thoughts!, and we can all express our opinions on this wonderful open book called the internet. I don't take any offence at being slated for my views, or for liking what I like, or for defending the work of someone or when my work is criticized. That all comes down to MY OPINION, or MY VIEW...... quite selfish when you say it like that, but as we are all entitled to it, then that sense of feeling disappears quite quickly when typing.

Good effort if you managed to go out and get a shot at all today, I for one appreciate that; whoever you are, and from where-ever in the world you are reading this. If you managed to blog anything today its a top top effort. I will of course have an opinion on your work, I may choose to say something, or I may not, either way don't take that as I love it or hate it, I will let you know, and I hope that you will all continue to do so in the future, here on ID7 or on any of the hundreds of thousands / millions of photoblogs that are out there. But one thing is for sure, if I want to enter into the depths of the image I will extend it beyond TWO WORDS: and for those that have read the blog on DJN's site and seen the comments on that thread ;-) then I would state that in MY honest opinion, ROBERT CAPA brilliant photographer and Magnum member that he was missed an opportunity, and got very very lucky having lost over 2/3rds of his frames to a junior who cocked up his rolls of film, and he was left with slightly badly exposed outoffocus images that said a lot from not a lot.

Robert Capa American photographer original name Andrei Friedmann born 1913, Budapest, Hungary died May 25, 1954, Thai Binh, Vietnam Main photographer whose images of war made him one of the greatest photojournalists of the 20th century.

A photo tells a thousand words; All of them different to different people.

And on that note, I have had enough of a soap box for a month.

This image has ABSOLUTELY no meaning, no conceptual / artistic boundary, no hidden depths, I just liked it..... thanks for readin my rant..... love and peace...... CSJ

Oh and here is a video of WHY I Twitter for all those people who a.Don't understand it, and b.Think its just for stalkers!!!, yes someone asked......

I am proud of my kids, they grow and change every day. My eldest just got into her school of choice, and to be honest I couldn't be happier for her, she really worked hard in her own way, and proved to us all that she can do it.

Well done Amber!... you made me very proud.

Finlay is like a chip off the old block and daily changes make him more akin to me than I ever imagined possible. He does, and says things the way I remember doing and saying things.... its a very very strange feeling....

No storm today, just gusty wind (v.cold) but no weather drama that I expected, apparently thats going to happen tonight..... batten down the hatches everyone.....csj

14/03/08 - Apologies for not posting anything in over a week, but I needed a bit of a time out from ID7, my seeing eye had dried up, and rather than trawl through old images I thought I'd have a break from posting. I will hopefully get inspired again over the weekend, weather permitting, and I'll be back on track next week..... apologies..... csj

Ok so this happened out of the blue, I wasn't even looking for a shot, but he made it possible and very easy for me, posing for at least 5 frames, before he got bored with Daddy pressing buttons and not paying him attention. One minute he's not able to walk or talk, next minute, he wants to play football in the kitchen and won't stop asking till you do!... they grow up like rockets.

Thanks to everyone who emailed me and wished me luck with the book, it means a lot, and I will be adding up the image votes at the end of this month. If you havent done so, click through the thumbnails (link above) and choose a few of your favourites for inclusion, this is your book. I have also decided to reduce the book back to 10"x8" to reduce the overall price, but let me know what you think, it was going to be 14"x11".

I have built the template, and started formatting the text, and am really looking forward to getting this done. So thanks again. csj

Just a quicky dont forget that its January, theres no light, your bored, and you need to brush up on Photoshop, then pop across to my friends at Chromasia click here - Photoshop tutorials by chromasia and get yourself a lesson in Photoshop you wont regret, I learnt more from them in 1/2hr of tutorials than I did in 10years of using the software.

His favourite place is either in front of the washing machine, or diving into the front of the open tumble dryer, and pulling out the warm sheets. I know, I know, we shouldn't have a tumble drier, because of our 'carbon footprint', but its difficult, our house is like a Chinese laundry 5 days of the week, what with the amount of stuff we have to wash.

Anyway enjoy the shot, and lets hope for good photographic weather this weekend, not that I'm a fair weather photographer.....no.... I just hate drying everything afterwards, maybe I should give it to Fin ;-) csj

This made me smile, a moment that just stays with you. My little boy just after a clean up session (wont go into too many details), but he decided to venture the 5.4m length of the kitchen and see what he could see, it was like a whole new world out there, he sat for several minutes just looking and pointing at things, BUTT naked of course, but it was such a moment of realisation that our little boy was growing up and seeing new things outside of the four walls that he has seen so much of over the winter months.

I grabbed the nearest camera, my wifes Canon ixus and decided to pop a few frames off before the moment was lost forever.

Oh little fella you make me smile.

Shot when I could grab his attention at the coffee shop, He's a bit up and down at the moment, can't seem to shift his cough and cold, and on top of those he's now got sticky eye conjunctivitus, yum....its never ending, but I guess that comes with the territory.

Hopefully, he'll improve over the next week or so before xmas.

I'm off to enjoy the rest of my holiday week with him. Enjoy, leave a comment if you so wish.

So its only fitting that my 100th post to the site be a photo of my little boy.

After all I guess he's the energy that keeps me going, or as I feel at the moment the source of my tiredness.

Anyway I cant remember life before him, and I cant bare to think about life without him.

I love this shot, its one of three frames I took, I was feeding him at the time, so its a near miracle that anything useful was taken.

However there was this fraction of a second of empathy to my one handed cause, and he looked straight at the lens, held his stare and allowed me the opportunity to get what I beleive is precious moment.

I cant wait to give the little fella a camera for the first time.

I guess "A" will want one aswell, and it will be amusing to see what the Bobby Dazzler can catch on his first go, probably lots of carpet shots at close quarters.

You never know he might end up being better than his old man...... gulp ..... hahahahaha (ed)

Finlay was on form today, Slept, ate, burped, parped, and slept again, in between these exciting new things to do he looked at me, and it just melted me down to a place I've never felt before.

He grabbed my finger and I think he thought it was mummy.

It wasnt....

Day 3 and counting. Nanna and Grandad are coming to see him next weekend, altho I think my mum would have come sooner... He cant wait to see them (I think) and I'm so excited about that.

I cant sleep. Sleep doesnt seem to matter at the moment.

A feeling you never experience until that moment when the baby appears, total over whelming sense of pride and responsibility. My fantastic wife Mel had a straight labor, she is fine and we are all really happy, Fin is just the greatest.

Mind you he is 9lb at the moment and enjoying the finest that life has to offer, food and sleep....

I know things will change for the noisier in the future, but he is just such a little thumper and the ayre to the throne, the JUDD throne that is.

More of FIN in the future no doubt.

Mel had an opportunity to work on the Isle of Wight for a day, so we all decided to go, and make the day of it, it was only a part day job anyway, and we thought we could blag the best part of the day at the Tiger Sanctuary, which conveniently was by a beach, so we made the absolute most of the time we had, the light was great and the moment on the beach was special..... its a long story, but it was special....

I hope for more times like that, it was one of my favourite times.

Kiddo made some great moves on the shore this was one of about 5 frames that I liked a lot, I might put up more in the future, maybe..... or into a seperate folio.

We have a friend who lives not too far away, she has a lovely detached property with stables, yes her own stables, and several horses. Sounds grand and over the top, but no, this person is sincere, and quite possibly one of the nicest most down to earth people you are ever likely to meet.

Anyway, mini 'kez' likes riding, and we take her there from time to time. What prompted me to put this image on was the fact that her daughter is going for an operation on Monday, so it’s just to say that we are thinking of you and hope it all goes well.

The shot was a chance shot, she looked so small in that huge riding hat, made us realise that she was growing up......
